Malaga Christmas Lights on the Alcazaba

Malaga’s Christmas lighting in 2019 adds a new spectacle to the city’s already wide decorative offer. This year, a projection by means of video mapping on the wall of the Alcazaba will be premiered. In their desire to improve and dazzle locals and visitors alike, the Malaga City Council committee of festivities, with the sponsorship of entities such as the Premium Group, is promoting this new form of Christmas lighting.

The “Christmas Story”, created specifically for Malaga by the company Firefly, will be projected on the wall of the Alcazaba of Malaga from 29 November 2019 until 5 January 2020, in three showings: at 6.30, 8.00 and 9.00 pm. This 7-minute tale tells the story of a girl who lives and walks around present-day Malaga, showing emblematic places such as the cathedral, and it aims to highlight values such as solidarity, companionship and generosity.

But all this infrastructure of robotic lighting, LED technology and soundtrack will not be limited to the narration of the “Christmas Story” on the Alcazaba. In addition, it will be used between performances to be part of Malaga’s Christmas decoration with the projection of stars, garlands, balls and Christmas trees on this monument. It goes without saying that La Terraza de la Alcazaba will have privileged views to this great spectacle. Are you going to miss it?

Larios Street Forest: The Queen of Malaga Christmas Lights

Once again, the lighting of the capital’s most important pedestrian street will catch everyone’s eye. The Christmas lighting of Malaga 2019 on Larios Street will embody a forest with suns, angels and natural motifs. In addition, many of the figures and decorative elements are made of methacrylate so that the decoration can be enjoyed both day and night. The 22 arches and 730,000 points of light will be illuminated for the first time on 29 November at 6.30, 8.00 and 9.30 pm, with their traditional soundtrack.

The themes selected to accompany the Malaga Christmas lights are “All I want for Christmas is you” by Mariah Carey, “Jingle bell rock” by Hilary Duff, “En Navidad” by the OT Academy with Rosana and “Never Back Down” by TSFH and the Sofia Session Orchestra & Choir.

Other Plans to Enjoy Malaga’s Christmas Lights

In 2019, Malaga’s Christmas lights will reach a total of 76 streets in the centre, among which Comedias, Nosquera and Santa Lucía streets will be turned on for the first time. But we can’t forget this year’s great comeback. The Alameda Principal will reignite and attract visitors after its recent reopening.

Nor can we ignore the other attractions that Malaga has during these holidays. The Christmas markets at Paseo del Parque and Muelle Uno or the seven giant Christmas trees that will sprout in our squares. The main ones will be lit in the Huelin park, next to the Cervantes Theatre or in Alcazabilla street. However, due to its location and dimensions, it is certain that the one that receives the most photos will be that of the Plaza de la Constitución.

Now, you cannot say you don’t know what to do in Malaga at Christmas. Projections on the Alcazaba, shows of lights and sound in Larios Street, markets and Christmas trees. The ideal environment to let that child we all carry inside run free. Merry Christmas!

Dear Lynda, thank you for your message. We are really sorry about that. At last moment the town hall announced that there would be no Christmas lights show the 24h December and the 5th of January. Even so, we expected that you could enjoy your Christmas holidays at Málaga. Best Regards.
